Planning a holiday for the first time is daunting

Sarah and David had never taken a vacation abroad, now that they have enough time and opportunity, they are excited to take a good holiday, but they dont know what to do. Lets help them. It is a lengthy process, but its better to take it step by step.

Planning a Holiday – The Process

Sarah: We really need a holiday, but don’t even know where to start.

David: Planning a holiday is actually a step-by-step process. You just take one thing at a time.

Sarah: So what do we do first?

David: First, decide where we want to go.

Sarah: Oh, that makes sense. Beach, mountains, city… something like that?

David: Exactly. Then decide when we want to travel.

Sarah: Because prices and weather change, right?

David: Right. Some places are cheaper in certain seasons too.

Sarah: Okay, lets begin, what do we need.

David: Why don't we do some research first. Let's begin with our holiday destination.

Step 1 – Choose the Destination

Sarah: So first: choose the place.

David: Yes. Ask yourself:

  • What type of holiday do I want?

  • Relaxing or adventurous?

  • Local or overseas?

  • Warm weather or cold weather?

Sarah: I think we should holiday overseas, see as many places, enjoy warm weather.

David: That is what I call the perfect holiday. It must be different.

Step 2 – Set a Budget

Sarah: What comes after that?

David: Money. Set a budget before booking anything.

Sarah: That’s the difficult part.

David: Your budget helps decide:

  • Flights, Hotels, Food, Activities, Transport

Sarah: Should we check how much we have in savings?

David: That would be a great idea!

Step 3 – Check Documents

Sarah: Then what?

David: Check our passport.

Sarah: Oh no… what if it’s expired?

David: Then renew it first. Also check:

  • Visas

  • Travel insurance

  • Vaccinations if needed

Step 4 – Book Transport

Sarah: So now we can book flights?

David: Yes. Compare prices and times before booking.

Sarah: Morning flights are usually better for us.

David: And always check baggage rules.

Step 5 – Choose Accommodation

Sarah: Hotel next?

David: Yes and no. Lets first decide what we would like to stay in:

  • A hotel

  • Guesthouse

  • Airbnb

  • Resort

  • Backpackers lodge

Sarah: I like places close to attractions.

David: That saves transport money and time.

Step 6 – Plan Activities

Sarah: This is the fun part.

David: Definitely. Lets make a list of:

  • Places to visit

  • Restaurants

  • Tours

  • Museums

  • Beaches

  • Shopping areas

Sarah: But not too many things in one day.

David: Exactly. Holidays should still feel relaxing.

Step 7 – Pack Properly

Sarah: I always overpack.

David: Everyone does. It is better to make a checklist:

  • Clothes

  • Chargers

  • Medication

  • Travel documents

  • Toiletries

Sarah: And comfortable shoes.

David: Very important. This is so exciting.

Step 8 – Prepare Before Leaving

Sarah: Anything else before the trip?

David: Yes:

  • Exchange money if needed

  • Charge devices

  • Confirm bookings

  • Arrange transport to the airport

  • Tell your bank if travelling overseas

Final Thoughts

Sarah: Wow… planning a holiday is actually a whole process.

David: It is, but once you do it step by step, it becomes exciting instead of stressful.

Sarah: I think the hardest part is deciding where to go.

David: And the best part is finally getting there!
