Earning the Right to Rest - Fact 5

THE WOMAN PROJECT — Woman Fact 5
She holds an entire world together with her own two hands, and somehow still feels guilty for sitting down. That guilt was never hers to carry.
READ IT
I remember sitting down for ten quiet minutes once, and immediately thinking of three things I "should" be doing instead. Nobody said a word to me. I did that entirely to myself, the way so many of us do.
Researchers call it the "gender leisure gap." One recent survey found 68% of women reported burnout in the past week. Working mothers are 28% more likely to burn out than working fathers. There's even a name for the invisible pressure behind it, "intensive mothering" norms, the quiet belief that a woman's time should really belong to everyone but her.
Here's the truth worth shouting: a woman who can hold that much, for that long, without falling apart, is not fragile. She's extraordinary. And extraordinary women are still allowed, fully allowed, to rest without earning it first.
SAY IT
Practice this phrase out loud today: "I'm resting, because I've earned every single minute of my life, not just this one."
THINK IT
The last time you rested, did you feel calm, or did you feel like you were getting away with something? What would it take to simply feel calm instead?
CHALLENGE IT
Sit still for ten full minutes today, doing genuinely nothing productive. When the guilty thought shows up, thank it for trying to help, and keep sitting anyway.
