Doomscrolling for Hours? Fix It in 10 Minutes, how?. By Watching the Exact Same Content in English

You're going to scroll anyway. Nobody is stopping you, and honestly, neither am I. But here's the trick: the same funny videos, cooking clips, and dog compilations exist in English too. Switch your feed's language, or follow a few English accounts covering the same stuff you already love, and your doomscroll quietly becomes a listening lesson.

A quick (true-ish) story. A student once proudly told me she'd “watched three hours of English content” for homework. Turns out it was cat videos with English captions. I was ready to be disappointed. Then I asked her to explain, in English, why the cat in video seven was “absolutely unbothered.” She did it perfectly. Homework technically complete.

The science bit. This is comprehensible input in action, the idea that you learn language fastest from content you actually understand and enjoy, slightly above your current level, not from content that feels like homework. Your brain doesn't distinguish between “fun scrolling” and “official studying.” It just absorbs whatever language it hears repeatedly, especially when you're relaxed and paying attention because you actually want to.

Why forcing yourself to watch “boring but educational” content backfires. If content bores you, your attention drifts, and drifting attention means almost nothing gets absorbed, no matter how educational it claims to be. Enjoyable content keeps you watching, and watching is the whole mechanism.
